Catalogue Note:
The Patek Philippe Reference 1463 occupies a distinguished place in the manufacture's history as its first water-resistant chronograph. Introduced in 1940 and discontinued in 1967, the model featured cases manufactured by Taubert and housed the celebrated Calibre 13'''130, protected by an inner metal dust cover. Production is generally divided into three series and included examples in yellow gold, pink gold, and stainless steel. Fewer than 300 pieces across all metals are believed to have reached the market, making the reference one of the most coveted vintage Patek Philippe chronographs.
Preserved with exceptional care throughout its life, the present example stands out for its remarkably original and well-preserved condition. The case retains strong proportions, with healthy lugs, crisp edges, and clearly defined gold hallmarks between the lugs. The dial has developed a highly attractive and even cream-coloured patina, while the hard enamel signature and scales remain beautifully raised, exactly as discerning collectors hope to find. Remaining in completely original condition, the watch is further enhanced by the presence of its original certificate.
Accompanying the watch is its original Patek Philippe Certificat d'Origine et de Garantie, stamped by Pelloni Orologeria dal 1892, Via del Corso 140, Rome, and dated 11 July 1969. Also included is an Extract from the Archives, confirming production of the present watch in 1968 and its subsequent sale on 30 April 1969.
An intriguing aspect of the watch's provenance lies in its Roman retail history. Hausmann & Co., founded in Rome in 1794 by Ernst Hausmann and Hermann Frielingsdorf, remains one of Italy's most prestigious watch and clock retailers, operating from its historic premises in the city's centre. Notably, the certificate bears the stamp of Pelloni Orologeria, another prominent Roman retailer of fine watches that was acquired by Hausmann in the late 1960s.
