Le calibre Beta21, issu d'un consortium de fabriquants parmi lesquels Rolex et Patek Philippe, fut développé dans les années 70 à Neuchâtel au sein du Swiss Electronic Research (CEH) en réaction à l'avènement de la toute nouvelle industrie horlogère japonaise avec ses montres à quartz précises et dont la fabrication en grand nombre était permises à des coûts très maitrisés. Synonyme d'innovation technologique, le prix de ces montres était, pour les manufactures suisses, souvent bien plus élevé que les modèles traditionnels à mouvements mécaniques._x000D_

The Beta21 caliber, developped by a consortium of manufacturers including Rolex and Patek Philippe in the 1970s in Neuchâtel within the Swiss Electronic Research (CEH) in reaction to the advent of the whole new Japanese watch industry and its quartz movements, precise and whose a large production was allowed at low costs. Synonymous with technological innovation, the price of these watches was, for Swiss manufacturers, often much higher than traditional models with mechanical movement.
