Superior quality patinated bronze okimono depicting an elephant defending itself from the attack of two tigers: one on its back and the other under its paw.

Excellent example very well worked in the details of the elephant's skin contrasting with that of the two double patina tigers with a different shine.

The okimono is signed under the elephant's belly within the square reserve Genryusai Seiya zo 誠谷作.
\r
Weight 4kg.

Genryusai Seiya was the master craftsman specializing in bronzes of great quality. His works included bronze animal studies, but also scenes of everyday life depicting human figures.
\r
This is a sculpture from the Meiji period (late 19th century) . In this period, bronze works were produced that were decidedly more refined and not on a large scale unlike the later ones of the Showa period (1926–1989) .
