This silk screen is printed on thick machine made paper with a thin paper text onlay which is pasted along the left margin and lightly on the image, resting on top of the image. It is a poster for an exhibition of Patrick Caulfield s work at the Marconi Gallery in 1966. Signed in plate, not by hand. It is not listed in the Catalogue Raisonné but it has been authenticated by Alan Cristea, his dealer. Not pristine; a horizontal fold in the middle of the print; the paper has small tears and light creases; pin holes in all four corners; Otherwise very good. A very rare item. Image size 47 x 45 cm; Sheet size 51 x 49 cmMade/designed in 1966 just after Caulfield had left the Royal College of Art and worked with the Gallery owner Robert Fraser. A leading figure of the Pop movement in the mid 1960 s period, Robert Fraser and Giorgio Marconi worked together to promote their artists. Studio Marconi had only been open since 1965, just a year, yet showed international artists whom are now very well known. This is a very rare early silkscreen Poster by Patrick Caulfield. Not listed in the Catalogue Raisonné but it has been authenticated by Alan Cristea who compiled Patrick Caulfield. The Complete Prints.
