JANUARY 17 : 1988 was painted by Heron to replace an earlier favourite gouache that he was persuaded to part with, titled APRIL IX : 1973. He liked the gouache so much that he painted a new one from memory to replace it in his personal collection at Eagles Nest in 1988.
