Patrick Procktor RA, British 1936-2003 - Tiny blue-eyed goldfish, c.1970; watercolour on paper, signed lower right 'Procktor' and inscribed lower left 'Tiny Blue-eyed goldfish/ Muscat Jan 19', 34 x 49.8 cm (ARR) Provenance: Oz Magazine Obscenity Trial Charity Auction, London, 1971; Sidney Spellman, purchased from the above Note: Sidney Spellman and his wife owned the Welbeck Gallery in London and his lithography firm printed several issues of infamous 1960s counterculture magazine Oz. The magazine was prosecuted on charges of obscenity in the UK in 1971, which led to a group of artists putting together a charity auction to raise funds for the legal costs involved. This included works by David Hockney, George Melly and the present piece by Patrick Prockter.
