[ translate ]

Fratelli Patricola is an Italian company and manufacturer of clarinets and oboes since 1976 with headquarters in Castelnuovo Scrivia, in the province of Alessandria. History: At the beginning of the 1930s, in the village of Castelnuovo Scrivia there was a factory of brass and woodwind, that employed several master luthiers. The production of instruments stopped during the Second World War and did not resume until the early sixties, when the three brothers Francesco, Pietro and Biagino Patricola learned the secrets of the construction of oboes and clarinets from an old artisan. In 1976, in Castelnuovo Scrivia, the three brothers founded the company that was later joined by their children and grandchildren to carry on the family business. Instruments: The oboes and clarinets built by Patricola are known all over the world and played by Italian oboists in the orchestras of Milan, Rome, Venice and Naples, including Augusto Loppi, Paolo Fighera, Sergio Possidoni, Giacomo Calderoni and Francesco Quaranta, as well as by international oboists including Andrew Knights, Philip W. Ayling, Hansjörg Schellenberger of the Berliner Philharmoniker and Fumiaki Miyamoto of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The peculiarity of the tools created by Patricola lies in the natural seasoning of wood: it takes 20 years for it to be transformed into the finished instrument. The following instruments are manufactured (according to the website) exclusively by hand, in grenadilla wood (melanoxylon) with silver mechanics, the top-quality models optionally also in bubinga (guibourtia tessmannii) and with golden mechanics. 1. Oboes: a student model, a semi-professional model and a professional model (“Artist”) , a love oboe in La, two English horn models in Fa, and a musette oboe in Mi♭. 2. Clarinets: only clarinets with the Boehm system in the high-Mi ♭, Do, Si ♭and La tunings in different versions and qualities. Deep clarinets (basset horn, alto clarinet, bass clarinet) are not produced. This is an ebony oboe, S3 PROFESSIONAL model. And it is in excellent condition.
