⁂ Patten was an early member of the Society of Antiquaries, who fell from grace in 1567/8 as a teller of the exchequer when £7,928 was found to be missing from his account. In 1570 he had published a vocabulary and grammar to accompany an Armenian psalter in the collection of Archbishop Parker.
