Paul Evans
An Important and Unique "Argente" Disc Bar

circa 1968
the interior fitted with a locking safe
unique production by Paul Evans Studio, Lambertville, New Jersey
welded and dye-painted aluminum, enameled steel, painted wood
72 x 72 x 16½ in. (182.9 x 182.9 x 41.9 cm)

Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. Characteristic of Evans’ “Argente” series, this cabinet presents with a variety of abstract motifs, surface treatments and dynamic contrasts between black and reflective silver. The metal and inked surfaces overall present with irregularities and great texture which are inherent to the artist's practice. The metal surfaces present with faint scattered scratches, light scuffing and small indentations to the edges consistent with gentle handling, as well as instances of oxidation and minimal tarnish consistent with age.
The edge of the doors with occasional small instances of wood stain, not visually distracting.
The wooden interior is finished with a dynamic russet red and dark brown paint, fitted with one drawer, a locking safe and two adjustable shelves covered in faux leather.
A true masterwork by the artist displaying impressive scale and technical artistry. When viewed in person this piece has wonderful presence and serves as a great visual focal point. It is also highly functional as a bar cabinet.

Provenance:
Midwestern Estate, acquired directly from the artist, circa 1968
Acquired from the above by the present owner
