Remarkable Piazza edition in in-4 format. Text framed by 2 black lines and a large garland printed in light gray.

Edition of 1300 numbered copies (the first 300 with a series of color illustrations) , this one n°976. - Beautiful print on pearly vellum paper, resembles Japanese paper.

Paperback, under cover illustrated in blue and gold, filled.

Very nice copy, cover slightly faded, otherwise in very good condition. Fresh, freckless interior. Untrimmed.

Arthur Rackham was born on September 19, 1867 in London. He began by working as a journalist in sensational illustrated magazines, before being offered contracts to illustrate books. He achieved his first successes with Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving (1904) , then Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens by James Matthew Barrie (1906) . His career took a turning point with Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland in 1907, since the controversy surrounding this work allowed him to achieve fame. From then on, Arthur Rackham could devote himself entirely to book illustration.
