\Artist: Paul Lecomte (1842-1928)
Technique: Oil on panel\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 57. 5_45. 5_57. 5_cm
Oil painting on panel by Paul Lecomte (1842-1928) . Original frame in carved solid wood, traces of gold leaf. Signed on the bottom right, 30x42 cm. The work has just been completely cleaned by a qualified professional, at a cost of several hundred euros. The painting has a very nice presence in an interior. "Paris, l'esplanade des Invalides", Circa 1899-1900. Covered with magnificent trees planted in staggered rows, the Esplanade des Invalides was largely cleared during the earthworks for the 1900 Universal Exhibition. The painter was the only one who went during this short period to immortalise this landscape one last time. The scene creates a contrast between the beauty of the building, the tree-lined atmosphere but also the historical reality, with the change of landscape echoing the World Fair, symbol of great changes. Paul Lecomte was a pupil of the painter Émile Lambinet (1815-1877) . He is considered one of the last representatives of the Barbizon School. It is represented in several public collections, such as the Louvre Museum and the Petit Palais in Paris or the Museum of Fine Arts in Mulhouse.
