Paul Silvestre (1884-1976) - Susse Frères bronsgieterij - Art Deco gilt bronze faun

Well-known work by Paul Silvestre. The image depicts a young faun. A faun is a mythological being. It was a god from Roman legends. Later, the faun was often presented as a forest god. A faun has the back body of a buck, with split hooves, and the upper body of a human. The whole is made as a desk accessory - inkwell. The insert of the inkwell is missing and has been replaced by a tea candlelight. This allows the pot to serve as an ambient light as shown in the photos. Four tea lights will be included. The French sculptor Paul Silvestre was educated at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1912 he received the Grand Prix de Rome. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he received many awards. In addition to monumental work, he also designed lighter work such as this little boyish faun.
