Paust, portrait miniature depicting Domenico Sestini (Florence 1750-1832), famous numismatist and archaeologist.During his numerous travels he visited Sicily (where he had been appointed keeper of the library and museum of the nobleman from Catania Ignazio Paternò Castello, Prince de 'Biscari), Asia Minor (where he learned Turkish, which he transliterated with a very effective system of his invention), Syria, Mesopotamia (Baghdad, Basra), the Aegean, then the Balkans, Hungary (guest of various illustrious personalities of the caliber of Cristoforo Migazzi) and finally Germany. In Germany I work for the rearrangement of the numismatic collection, which later became the nucleus of the Münzkabinett.In 1810 he went to Paris and then returned to Florence, as librarian of the Grand Duchess Elisa Baciocchi. He will return to Hungary to rearrange the numismatic collection of the Viczays (Mihály Viczay senior and Mihály Viczay junior) in Hédervár (Hedervarian Museum). It was precisely as a result of these works done in Hungary that the Grand Duke of Tuscany Ferdinand III appointed him professor at the University of Pisa . He is buried in the Church of Santa Croce in Florence.
