A magnificent Russian silver-gilt, cloisonné and plique-à-jour enamel tankard, of octagonal form in Russian Renaissance style, domed slip-on lid with pierced ball finial and floral bands, the upper half body with a braided rope brim and stylized flowers on a green ground below, the lower half body divided into arched panels separated with twist columns and decorated with conforming flowers on a gilt ground, the base with a braided rope brim, bottum finished with a brightly coloured vignette in plique-à-jour enamel depicting an eagle vanquishing a serpent. Pavel Akimov Ovchinnikov, marked with the Imperial Warrant as purveyor to the Imperial Russian Court, assayer Anatoli Apollonovich Artsibashev, Moscow town mark, 88 standard. C. 1895.
