First book in Whitman's short-lived teen space adventure series inspired by the national fascination with the cold war competition between the U.S. and Russia for domination of the new frontier.

The book takes place not too long after the 1960s, but the world has developed space travel, and many world powers have spaceships. The story starts in Greenland, at a stopover in the World Grand Prix Air Race. International playboy Paul Girard lands his experimental plane, the XY-Fury, having pulled into the lead during the prior leg of the race...
