A Bishop chest cross in gilt silver Made by the Master Silversmith Giuseppe Vernaccini in his workshop in Macerata (Papal state) , second half of the 1700s. The information about the hallmarks were taken from the book by Anna Bulgari Calissoni, Maestri Argentieri Gemmari e Orafi degli Stati della Chiesa The cabochon is a semi-precious stone. One of the four prongs of the setting is missing, but the stone is firmly attached to the cross. The gilding is likely made with mercury.
