Portrait of a distinguished gentleman wearing a grey full-bottomed wig and a patterned silk robe lined with lynx fur. He holds a letter in his hand. Unsigned. On the reverse inscribed “P. Als,” with an additional wax seal and an inventory label numbered 641. Oil on canvas. 76 × 60 cm. Set in a richly carved and gilded Rococo frame.
Unfortunately, it has not been possible to identify this elegant gentleman. Perhaps the letter in his hand can provide a clue. It appears to be signed “Als.”
