Pendant with diamonds mother of pearl and translucent
Gold 750/- and silver, tested. Ca. 151 varyingly old-cut diamonds, together ca. 1.50 ct. 1 silver-gray large teardrop-shaped shell, ca. 6.5 x 3.2 cm. Turquoise, violet, yellow and colourless translucent enamel on an engraved base. Several diamonds are missing. Enamel is min. damaged. Ca. 8.85 x 3.4 cm. Ca. 37.29 g. Maritime creatures were among the traditional animal motifs in East Asian Art, and such motifs were transferred and introduced into Art Nouveau jewellery design. This piece is a particularly extraordinary example of this adaptation. On the front, a shell is embraced by a diamond-studded algae, on the back, fish are swimming between seaweed tendrils. SvP
