Pendulum clock with burial monument of Napoléon

IMPORTANT GILT BRONZE PENDULUM CLOCK WITH BURIAL MONUMENT OF NAPOLÉON.

Paris.
Date: Dated 1840.
Technique: Gilt bronze. Dial silver-plated.
Description: High plinth decorated with war trophies, resting lion, view of St. Helena, as well as a
medallion with Napoleon carried by two genii. Above it a female allegory with eagle,
cannons, flag and the urn of Napoleon. Roman hours. Pendulum movement with thread
suspension and half-hour chime on bell.
Measurement: Height 58cm.
Mark: Signed FRANCE 1840.
Condition B. (P).
Enclosed: Original pedestal made of rosewood with acorn inlays.

Provenance:
Private collection Berlin.

Napoléon Bonaparte died on May 5th 1821 in exile on the island of St. Helena at his house 'Villa Longwood'. First he was buried in the so-called 'Valley of Geraniums' on St. Helena. On the the initiative of King Louis Philippe, the mortal remains of Napoleon were transferred to Paris in 1840. A national funeral service was held on the 15th of December 1840 when Napoleon was buried at the Dôme des Invalides in Paris. The representative tomb, erected according to plans by Louis Visconte, was not completed until 1861.
