Biography of the photographer: ROMERO Ramírez, Perfecto (Cabaiguán, 25th January, 1939) . Photo journalist. He started his career in 1955 with the photographer Alfredo Rodríguez Peinado, taking commercial photographs. In 1958 he joined the Movement 26 de Julio and he joined the troops of Che Guevara. He served as a war correspondent, along with photographer Sacura Yamoto (Cuban of Japanese parents) . At this stage he documented the military actions of Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos in the taking of cities and towns during the liberation war (Fomento, Cabaiguán, Yaguajay, Guayo, Placetas and Santa Clara) . After April 1959 he went on to work in the magazine Verde Olivo until 1986, when he joined the weekly Palante, to the present day. In the 1960s he documented political and military events such as the Fight against Bandidos in the Sierra del Escambray, and the acts for the First of May and July 26 of each year. He was the official photographer who witnessed the preparation work (in Cuba and the USSR) of the first Cuban cosmonaut, Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, in the Cuban-Soviet joint spaceflight. He was a war correspondent in Angola and Nicaragua. His photographs have illustrated several books such as: Camilo, hombre y héroe (2007) ; La Habana de mi corazón, Una f. Iesta de la fotografía cubana (2002) ; Che y la fotografia de la Revolución Cubana (2002) ; Camilo, Imágenes en la memoria (1999) ; Che Guevara y la fotografía de Perfecto Romero (1997) ; Che y qué (1993) ; Nada es más importante que un niño (1979) , among others. He obtained awards at the Salones Nacionales 26 de Julio and at the Bienal del Humor de San Antonio de los Baños and the first prize for the best photograph of the year (1967) of the CDA magazine of the USSR. His photos have been exhibited in Cuba, France, Guatemala, England, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland and the USSR. Among the decorations received are the Distinción Por la Cultura Nacional the replica of the Machete de Máximo Gómez, the Raúl Gómez García distinction of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Cultura and the Premio Nacional de Periodismo (2013) , for the work of a lifetime. He is a member of the UPEC. He is currently the last photographer of the Cuban Revolution alive. His works can be found in museums and galleries worldwide.
