Peripheral Early Dynastic Cylinder Seal with Caprids
Mid 28th-27th century BC. A carved limestone Early Dynastic II cylinder seal with three slender jumping mountain sheep, the front one with the hind legs up, the other two galloping towards it, fill out the picture; a goat above the last right, tearing the abdomen; the U-shaped curved back imagines the goat in the jump; between the animals some floral elements; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. 5.09 grams, 21mm (7/8"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s.
