Two specimens of this rare fossil reptile have been prepared on their original matrix in their natural positions. Claudiosaurus, not a dinosaur, but rather a reptile, is an extinct diapsid (a group characterized by the presence of two temporal openings in the skull, including the lizards, snakes, crocodiles, dinosaurs, and pterosaurs.) A freshwater reptile, it is known from the Permian of Madagascar. About the same size as a small modern marine iguana, Claudiosaurus possessed a long tail, large webbed feet and a small head.
