Talismanic manuscript, Qajar Iran, 1264 AH [i.e. 1847/8 CE], Persian and Arabic manuscript in black ink on paper, comprising several conjoined sheets, text between black and orange rules, decoration in various shades of orange including headpiece, vignette of King Solomon (crowned and haloed, and mounted on a horse) above a horned demon, and 2 vignettes comprising calligraphic shahadah within cusped quatrefoil surrounded by 4 stylised bird motifs, slightly rubbed or smudged in places, colouring faded, a few abrasions towards foot obscuring a few words, mounted, framed and glazed (mount aperture 6.6 x 163 cm), together with a Ge'ez liturgical manuscript scroll, Ethiopia, probably 19th century, mounted in glass-fronted presentation case
