Persian Achaemenid Copper Bowl Helmet Form

Ancient Near East, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE. A well-formed cast-copper bowl with a circular base and bulbous form corseted half way up to form straight walls that slightly flare at the rim. The curious vessel exhibits a jutting rectangular spout flanked by two decorative ovoid moldings that look a bit like eyes and a series of quatrefoil flower stamps along its rim and spout. Gorgeous hues of russet and seafoam green patina envelop this ancient artifact. Size: 5.875" in diameter x 4" H (14.9 cm x 10.2 cm)

Provenance: ex Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan USA acquired before 2000

Condition Report: Writing on interior. Two holes opposite of spout surrounded by some nicks/chips and repairs. Slight indentations, but form is still clear. Lovely patina and rich earthen deposits. Overall, excellent.
