Phiale Sasanian 5th Century AD Diameter 13. 8 cm; Height 3. 5 cm PROVENANCE: Private english collection, 1979. CONDITION: Intact. The bowl was probably first beaten out to create a flat form. The base was then worked from the inside and the outside to create a thick metal circle. From this the piece was worked from the inside to achieve the bulbous bowl form without decoration on the omphalos. This phiale is one of the most characteristic bowls. It is a ritual bowl which was used to hold a beverage, probably alcoholic, and was also used for libations to the divinities. The history of this recipient form is very lengthy: it was very much favoured in the eastern and central Mediterranean area, to the point where it became the Greek vessel form par excellence for the religious act of libation as early as the Archaic Period around the 7th Century BC. Notes: The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union) . - According to Spanish legislation, items sent outside the European Union are subject to export taxes and will be added to the invoice, at the buyer's expense. These export fees are fixed on the final auction price and the tax rate is not applied directly on the total value of the item to be exported, but rather the different percentages by sections are applied to it: - Up to 6,000 euros: 5%. - From 6. 001 to 60. 000 euros: 10%. - From 60. 001 to 600. 000 euros: 20%. This export permit application process can take between 1-2 months maximum. - The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property.
