[ translate ]

A striking illuminated front price rescued from a large but badly damaged Qur'an of Persian Origin, consisting of the Surah Al-Fatiha (in Arabic text: الفاتحة ) , "The Opening”, set within a large a stunning sky blue cartouche which has retained its colour over 5 Centuries, and which begins 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious' in gold Thuluth script.

Surrounding the central scripture is a gold floral arabesque, top and tailed with celestial arabesque end pieces all framed with interlinear markings of different colours. Above the scripture is a patterned top-piece: this does have some water damage best shown in 2b, where its adjoining bi-folio page had become stuck to the leaf.

The leaf size is as shown. The mount is purely for support. Photograph corner hinges secure the leaf to the mount and can easily removed so that it can be re-framed as required.

This is a prized illumination and would grace any sacred home.
