Ceramic bowl from Nishapur, one of the most important Persian ceramic sites of the Islamic Golden Age, especially in the 9th and 10th centuries. Decorated with zoomorphic and vegetal motifs, forming an ornamental continuity on the seat and eaves. During the Islamic Golden Age, Nishapur (Khorasan Razavi Province, northeastern Iran) was one of the great centres of ceramics and related crafts. Most of the pottery discovered in Nishapur is preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and museums in Tehran and Mashhad. These ceramics show connections with Sassanid and Central Asian art.
