Persian manuscript.- Maktabi (Shirazi) Layla va Majnun, [the romance of Layla and Majnun, epic poem written in A.H. 895 / A.D. 1489 - 90 by Maktabi and imitating the poem of the earlier famous poet Nizami], 106ff., the last 2 blank, 11 lines to the page written in double columns of nasta'liq script, double intercolumnar rules and inner and outer rules in gold throughout, headings picked out in red ink throughout, catchwords in outer margins, one illuminated head-piece in colours and gold at beginning, 19 miniatures in the Qajar style, broken and many leaves loose, contemporary lacquer boards painted with flowers, morocco spine crudely repaired with sellotape, coerners chipped, 8vo, written by the scribe Muhammad Husain ibn Mirza Muhammad Mazandarani, Qajar Persia, A.H. 124[0?] c.1814-15.

3. Majnun taken by his father on a pilgrimage to the Ka'bah.
4. Majnun within a chamber with a shrine in the background.
5. Majnun overcome by the sight of Layla.
6. Layla and Majnun in a landscape.
7. Layla meeting the old woman.
8. Maidens in a landscape with oranges and a bowl in the foreground.
9. Majnun and Naufal in a landscape.
10. The Battle of the Tribes.
11. Majnun arrives at an encampment.
12. Layla and Majnun with animals in a landscape.
13. Layla watches a sheep about to be slaughtered in front of her encampment.
14. Majnun being pulled by his father's hand.
15. Majnun visits his father's grave.
16. Majnun meets a rider in a landscape.
17. Majnun being met in front of a building.
18. Majnun watches a jackal killing its victim.
19. Majnun mourning Layla and about to die on her grave surrounded by animals.

Another manuscript copied in nasta'liq script by the same calligrapher was sold at Sotheby's, April 1993, lot 145. Another copy of this work but with 26 miniatures was sold at Bonham's, 24 April 2018, lot 144, dated A.H. 1254 / A . D. 1838 - 39.
