Peter Beard
1938 - 2020
'Elephants at Salt Lick, Aberdare Forest'

a unique object, gelatin silver print, signed, titled, dated, and with annotation in ink on the image, extensively illustrated with coloured inks by the Hog Ranch Art Department in the margin, the photographer's stamp, signed in ink, on the reverse, framed, 1984, executed in 2013
overall: 20 by 25.1 cm (7⅞ by 9⅞ in.)
frame: 28.2 by 33.4 cm (11⅛ by 13⅛ in.)

Condition Report:
Please note the colours and shades in the online catalogue illustration may vary depending on screen settings.

This unique work is in generally excellent condition. When examined closely in raking light, the following are visible: a deposit of original retouching, a fingerprint, and a pinpoint-sized impression in the upper right quadrant; and scattered hairline scratches overall.

There is a small paper remnant affixed to the upper right margin corner. The print is tipped to a backing board so that the reverse could not be fully examined, but the photographer's stamp and signature are partially visible.

The annotation on the image by the Hog Ranch Art Department reads as follows: 'Embellished by the Hog Ranch art Dept. world artists Solomon Wamisigo and Elizabeth Kioko Mutulu.'

Provenance:
Peter Beard Studio, New York, 2009
