Peter Marquant ist ein österreichischer Künstler und seit den 1980er Jahren ein wichtiger Vertreter der abstrakten Malerei in Österreich. Von 1972 bis 1981 studierte Marquant bei Wolfgang Hollegha und Josef Mikl an der Akademie der bildenden Künste. Er baute auf der abstrakten Malerei seiner Lehrer auf und entwickelte daraus seine eigenständige Formensprache. Die Erfahrung der Natur und das intensive Licht von Mallorca bestimmen seine Arbeiten. Leuchtende Ölbilder mit Abstraktionen von Alleen und Pflanzen. Die meisten Bilder tragen keinen Titel, da das Abstrakte in ihnen stärker ist als jede mögliche Assoziation. Er trägt Farbe aus der Bewegung heraus auf und lässt Formen einfließen, die an Bäume und Pflanzen erinnern. In anderen Werken bestimmen vertikale oder horizontale Farbfelder die Bildkomposition. Marquant lebt und arbeitet in Wien und auf Mallorca. Peter Marquant is an Austrian artist and has been an important representative of abstract painting in Austria since the 1980s. From 1972 to 1981, Marquant studied with Wolfgang Hollegha and Josef Mikl at the Academy of Fine Arts. He built on the abstract painting of his teachers and developed his own formal language from it. The experience of nature and the intense light of Mallorca determine his work. Bright oil paintings with abstractions of avenues and plants. Most of the pictures have no title because the abstract in them is stronger than any possible association. He applies color through movement and incorporates shapes that are reminiscent of trees and plants. In other works, vertical or horizontal color fields determine the composition of the image. Marquant lives and works in Vienna and Mallorca.
