Peter Milton (American, b. 1930)

The Jolly Corner, written by Henry James, a portfolio of twenty-one works, edition of 21, published in 1971 by Aquarius Press, Baltimore and New York. Numbered, signed, and dated "II/XXI PWMilton..." in pencil on the colophon page above the printers' dry stamps, each print inscribed with plate number in pencil l.c., print II.2 is signed and dated in pencil and has a printer's stamp. Etchings with engraving on paper, sheet sizes 19 x 15 in. (48.2 x 38.0 cm), presented in the original double-door-style portfolio box.
Condition: Extremely subtle handling crimps to several sheets.
Estimate $1,000-1,500

An enclosed addendum explains that this particular set does not include the additional signed set of 21 prints or a canceled plate.

The text is complete and the sheets and images are generally in very fine condition. The image of the final plate (III:7) looks gently light-struck as though it had been matted, framed, and displayed at some point. There is no evidence of hinging or other wear to this sheet.

Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
