Peter Paul Rubens, The boy Jesus with John, Copy
Peter Paul Rubens
Siegen 1560 - 1640 Antwerp
Copy after the painting in the KHM, Vienna
"The little boy Jesus with John and two putti"
Ca. 1850/60
Oil on canvas
71 x 106 cm
On the back with the reference to the artist
ROBERT THEER, 1808 – 1863
Extremely high quality repetition after the original in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
The artistic level of this work suggests that an academically trained artist created this painting. In the mid-19th century, only budding or trained artists were allowed to work in the Habsburg Picture Gallery for study purposes. The reference on the reverse to the painter Robert Theer, who after all also portrayed Emperor Franz Josef, is probable and in any case understandable.
