[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $550**

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Eastern Apulia/Ignazia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. An attractive wheel-thrown pottery lekythos of a petite form with a squat disc foot, a barrel-shaped body with a rounded shoulder, a corseted neck, a sloped rim overhanging the funnel mouth, and an applied handle arching between the neck and shoulder. Pale orange slip acts as the base color for the vessel, with black-and-white vertical stripes adorning the neck, and solid swaths of color on the rim, shoulder, handle, and foot. A broad crosshatch-patterned 'net' motif decorates the body, and fugitive white pigment is applied on each intersecting stripe. A wonderful example from ancient Magna Graecia! Size: 1.625" W x 3.625" H (4.1 cm x 9.2 cm).

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private H.G. collection, Rhineland-Palatinate, acquired between 1970 and 1999
