Petite Roman Bronze Head of Apollo

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A charming cast-bronze head of a deity, perhaps Apollo, the god of music, poetry, art, and knowledge. He stares to his left with almond-shaped eyes and has full lips and a perky nose beneath a curly coiffure and a lobed helmet. The interior of the head is filled with lead, and mottled layers of green and brown patina cover the entire composition. Size: 1.1" W x 1.6" H (2.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: ex-William Froelich collection, New York, USA, acquired in 1970s
