Petrified Hermanophyton Sphere Hermanophyton taylorii Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation, Brushy Basin Member East McElmo Creek, Cortez, Colorado, USA Not only is the variety of Hermanophyton a rare and highly collectible Petrified Wood, but it is typically only seen in cut and polished slabs or just rough specimens. In this case, the coveted material has been made into a captivating sphere with "eyes" at opposite ends of the fossil orb, perfectly showcasing the intricate material. This globe features a mix of woody coloration over its center, including some fill, but it is the vibrant, complex, and darker ends that make this offering so special. The xylem of the botanical remnant has been wonderfully preserved, resulting in organic and feathery wedge-shaped segments that characterize the core of such examples. Slightly larger than a baseball, this is a unique, incredible sphere. Measurements: 3.00 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
