Pewter Plate wedding gift , Moravia 18th century
From a private collection. Very rare heavy Pewter plate dated 1776, presented by the Chevra Kadisha/Burial Society of Kostelitz to bride and groom on the occasion of their engagement and wedding. Inscribed in Hebrew " Present from the Burial Society of Kostelitz to the brides side Reizel and the groom Isaac Kenig " signed off by the Gaboim and Rov. It appears to have been the standard tradition that the Burial Society would present bride and groom with a gift. There is also a possibility that either of the two families may have presented a large donation to the Society. A wonderful piece of our rich Jewish history.
