In 2005 the Strand Theatre was renamed as the Novello theatre. The change honoured of actor Ivor Novello, who lived in a flat above the theatre from the 1910s until his death in 1951. Noises Off and The Real Thing both enjoyed celebrated runs on the West End and Broadway, each earning numerous Tony Award nominations and the latter winning for Best Direction in 1984.
