Philip Lyford (1887 - 1950) "Stubborn Child" O/C

"The Stubborn Child" Signed lower right. Provenance: Christie's New York. Originally sold for $3,312 in 1989.
Overall size: 35 x 32 in.Sight size: about 27 x 24 in.Philip Lyford was a commercial artist and magazine illustrator who created imaginative advertising for a diverse range of clients, and a patriotic WWII recruiting poster. He painted historical events, boats, Maine scenes, portraits and did book illustrations.He was a nationally known portrait painter and did illustrations for a number of national magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post. During World War I he painted many posters for the war bond drives and in 1937 was awarded the Poor Richard Medal for outstanding achievement in the field of advertising art.
