Philip Lyons

[ translate ]

Observed from the coastal path running along the bay of St Ives, this is a view of Godrevy on the northern coast of Cornwall.

In this painting the striking blue planes of the calm sea are contrasted with a patchwork of fields, exposed land and built environment. It evokes the sense of an energizing walk on a bright, sunny day in Cornwall.

The artist's focus on composition and geometric forms is drawn from his knowledge of the mid-century artists, like Ben Nicholson, whose career was built upon time spent in St Ives.

Accolades
Philip Lyons has lived and worked in Cornwall since 1988. He has a degree in Fine Art from Bristol College of Art and a Post Graduate degree from Goldsmith's. He practised as an art psychotherapist for over 20 years in Cornwall and is now dedicated entirely to painting.

Philip’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Royal Cornwall Museum Art Collection, Falmouth Art Gallery, Palace of Westminster and Devon County Council.
