Philippe I, Duke of Orléans Letter Signed
Son (1640–1701) of King Louis XIII of France and Anne of Austria, celebrated for his military victory over William III, Prince of Orange, at the Battle of Cassel in 1670, and remembered as 'the grandfather of Europe.' Though open about his homosexuality, Philippe fathered five children with two wives, becoming an ancestor of most modern-day Roman Catholic royalty. In fine condition, with a small tear to the upper left corner and a few tiny stains.
