Philippe Starck - Driade - Dining room chair (4) - Ed Archer

Philippe Starck designed the Ed Archer Chair in 1987 for Driade. Thick black saddle leather with aluminium leg. I purchased the chairs in Germany 5 years age from people who had hardly used them. Frame is therefore still perfect. Minor signs of wear: scratches in the leather of the seat in particular (photo detail) ; and minimal table edge dents (photo detail) . The leather is beautiful, the stitching is still perfect. Signed. Detail: two of the four seats are from the original first series with leather laces in the rear of the leg upholstery leather. (Photo detail) . In the follow-up series, this sophisticated sensual detail has been cut down. The two other chairs are from the second series. What is described: The Ed Archer Chair is the ultimate pleasure of design and the power of provocation: the leather 'full dress', which reaches the floor, strongly resists the single polished metal 'shark-fin' hind leg made of cast aluminium. We think the chairs resemble stiletto court shoes with stiletto heels. Current retail price: €2,670 to €3,406 each.
