Philips Wouwerman, copy after
1619 Haarlem - 1668 Haarlem
Military Encampment with Horses and Soldiers at a Camp Fire
Oil on panel. 36 x 48 cm.
Following Wouwerman's similarly sized painting in private ownership (cf. Birgit Schumacher: Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668). The horse painter of the Golden Age. 2 vol., Doornspijk 2006, vol. 1, p. 301, no. A324). As the present image shows the composition reversed, it was presumably painted from the engraving "Halte de Cavalerie" by the famous French copperplate print maker Jacques-Philippe Le Bas (1707-1783).
