Phoebe Anna Traquair (Irish, 1852-1936) Rainbow-Enameled Brass Mounted Copper String Box, cylindrical, the pierced top with Arts & Crafts strapwork design centering a circular rainbow enamel medallion, the front with similar motifs, the sides with rainbow enamel punts, and one side fitted with a scissors holder. 3" H x 4" W x 3.25" D. Provenance: From a Manhattan collector. Note: An identical string box was sold, Penrith Farmers & Kidd's, Penrith, 30 June 2004, lot 462. Phoebe Anna Traquair was born in Ireland, and graduated from the School of Design of the Royal Dublin Society. She married a Scot, moved to Edinburgh, and became an internationally known member of the Scottish Arts and Crafts movement.
