Phoenician Glazed Faience Figural Pendant

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $200**

Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Phoenicia, ca. 4th to 1st century BCE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting a standing male figure with a bushy beard, perhaps a Phoenician rendition of the Roman god Jupiter (Greek Zeus). The figure stands upright upon fused legs, wears a flowing robe, and holds the upper robe fringe with his right hand. The visage does not bear any emphasized characteristics aside from the beard, though the viewer can tell that the robe hood is draped over the top of his head. Covered in layers of blue-green glazing, this is an intriguing figural artifact from the ancient Eastern Mediterranean! Size: 0.55" W x 1.3" H (1.4 cm x 3.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Phoenicia Holyland Antiquities, New York, New York, USA, before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent increases of shipments being seized by Australian & German customs (even for items with pre-UNESCO provenance), we will no longer ship most antiquities and ancient Chinese art to Australia & Germany. For categories of items that are acceptable to ship to Australia or Germany, please contact us directly or work with your local customs brokerage firm.

#159014
Condition Report: Minor abrasions and nicks to legs, body, and head, with fading to some areas of glaze pigment, and orange coloration to scattered areas of figure consistent with iron oxidation transfer, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to glaze color throughout.
