Sixteen of the photos were taken in 1936 by John Steinbeck and inscribed on the back . These photos could have been used for research for his writing. Photos include: Steinbeck home from Stone Street, Steinbeck home from Central Avenue Front, Garrissere home (Joe still lives here), Dessies house, Reynauds Bakery (closed), Corner where Berges and Garrissere formeraly had their liquor store, Joe Garrissere in front of his liquor store, Salinas Chinatown, Episcopal Church on Gabilan Street across from the post office. The gong near Buddist Church in California Street, Fremon Peaks Gabilan Mountains, Forner sporting house on California Street, Former sporting house on California Street, Former sporting house on Califronia Street. All Houses have been closed since about 1939.
