Offered here for your consideration are photos of the C-G Ranch rodeos, and perhaps other rodeos from around the U.S, and even a hand signed letter from Edward Borein. This lot should thrill anyone interested in the history of the sport of Rodeo and western related themes. It includes many action photos of cowboys at rodeos and the photos are organized to identify the rodeo, the year, and, if possible, the participant. Also included are photos of Jeanne Godshall and other members of her trick riding team displaying their skills. There is a program from a 1956 French rodeo featuring Jeanne Godshall and a 1955 program from the Caldwell Night Rodeo. Also included is a letter from Ed Borein to Clyde Forsythe on his very cool personal stationary. Lots of great western stuff that is sure to please any rodeo historian or fan of the sport so bid now to add it to your collection. You could make some nicely framed displays of each rodeo by year.
PROVENANCE: Located near Victorville, CA, the Ihmsen Ranch, later named the C Bar G, was acquired by the Godshall family. Cal Godshall began to host an annual rodeo at the ranch circa 1933, a rodeo that continued into the 1950s. The rodeo was a success, including the likes of Rex Bell, Clara Bow, Hopalong Cassidy, and Tex Ritter. The Hollywood connections bore fruit as the C Bar G became a Dude ranch hosting the likes of Carol Lombard, Dinah Shore, Joe Louis, and Alice Faye, and also a film set for early westerns. Disney Studios scored the movie, Fantasia at the Ranch there. Jeanne Godshall, the ranch owners’ daughter, was one of America’s most skilled and well known trick riders and performed all across America and in Europe. She was also a high fashion model. Many, many famous people from the golden age of Hollywood were associated with the ranch.
