Phryne Model Bronze Sculpture

This is a remarkable bronze sculpture by renowned Swiss born French artist Jean-Jacques Pradier (1792-1852) from about 1848. Known as "Phryne" ( Phryne was a courtesan, or hetaira, who lived in Athens in the 4th century BC.), this highly detailed neoclassical figure of woman on shaped stepped plinth, is in fine condition. Pradier`s model of Phryne was originally made from Parian marble, an entirely appropriate medium in view of the very Grecian subject of the work. The figure stood to a height of almost two meters; with her jewels and drapery highlighted in polychrome and gold, she made a dazzling impression to eye of beholder.

This is a Jean-Jacques Pradier inspired bronze sculpture bearing the signature of the artist.

Dimensions: 14" x 6"
Weight: 9 lbs
