Spanish or Italian Pierced cup hilt rapier with engraved openwork cup. Straight quillion, bar guard, and carved pommel. Long narrow blades and elaborate hilts, rapiers were favored by nobility and civilians for self-defense and dueling. They were often worn as a symbol of status and were associated with the fashionable courtly culture of the time. Size: 38 1/2" L, blade 30 1/4" L
Condition: old repairs to cup, loose wire to grip, and wear throughout from time and use
