Pierre GUASTALLA (1891-1968) Superb "Les Arbres", a beautiful oil painting with Fauvist and Cubist tendencies, signed on the bottom right, with a label on the back from the Château de Trévarez exhibition, 29 April to 2 October 1989. Dimensions: 61. 5 x 50 cm. Pierre Guastalla, who was born on 5 August 1891 in Saint-Cloud and died on 8 October 1968, was a French painter, illustrator, copper engraver, xylographer and lithographer. Trained by Jacques Beltrand, he was one of the most productive young engravers of his time, active from 1921 to 1968: xylographs, etchings, diamond drypoint, lithographs, i. e. about 600 plates. His themes include landscapes, seascapes and nudes. Also a writer, he published a “Traité d'esthétique” in 1928. He was one of the founders of the Young Contemporary Engraving in 1929, praised by Gustave Kahn and Paul Fierens Pierre Guastalla died on October 8, 1968. He has exhibited at museums and public collections He has exhibited at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
