Oil painting on canvas depicting a couple of lovers lying by the sea with a fishing boat. Signed P. Gabrini Roma on bottom left. Biography: Pietro Gabrini (Rome 1856-1926) A student of Giuseppe De Sanctis, he soon devoted himself to painting historical and literary subjects with a strong romantic inspiration (Romeo and Juliet, exhibited in Rome in 1885) . He participated in the exhibitions of Fine Arts in Rome in 1883 (“Dopo la burrasca”) , in Antwerp in 1885 and in St. Petersburg in 1902 (“Il racconto del vecchio marinaio”) . He won a gold medal at the 1892 Chicago Exhibition. He would also become a very skilled watercolourist, so much so that in the 1890s he would become part of the Società degli Acquarellisti romani, of which he will even become an advisor.
